- EMBARGO : Only to be published or disseminated at 1200 hours, Friday, 10 February 2017 DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS MALAYSIA PRESS RELEASE Special Release 2 (For Building And Structural Works) January 2017 Peninsular Malaysia The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) for several categories of building in region A-Northern, B-Perak and C-Central showed increases in January 2017. Meanwhile, the BCI for all categories of building in region D-Johor, E-Pahang and F-Eastern showed unchanged as compared to the previous month. The BCI (with steel bars) for several categories of building in region A-Northern, B-Perak, C-Central and F-Eastern showed increases in January 2017. Meanwhile, the BCI in region D-Johor and E-Pahang remained unchanged as compared to December 2016. The unit price indices of building materials that showed changes (increase/decrease) in January 2017 compared to the previous month are as follows:
- Sabah The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) in Sabah recorded increases for all categories of building in Kota Kinabalu except for 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (flat roof), timber piling and (R.C.) piling in January 2017. While, the BCI for all categories of building in Sandakan and Tawau remained unchanged as compared to December 2016. The BCI (with steel bars) in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau recorded increases for almost all categories of building in January 2017 as compared to the previous month. Changes in the unit price indices for building materials by region in Sabah are as follows: Sarawak The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) in all regions showed increases for all categories of buildings in January 2017 as compared to previous month. Changes in the unit price indices for building materials by region in Sarawak are as follows: Notes: R.C. = Reinforced Concrete *Region: A = Pulau Pinang, Kedah and Perlis B = Perak C = Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor D = Johor E = Pahang F = Kelantan and Terengganu
