  3. Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers in Iran Azar 1395 (1390=100) The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 1.4 percent in Azar 13951. The index level of 252.9 was 9.2 percent higher than in Azar 1394. For the first nine months of 1395, the consumer price index rose 8.5 percent compared to the similar period in 1394. The inflation rate has advanced 8.6 percent over the last twelve months. The food and beverages index increased 2.4 percent in Azar, largely due to the increases in the indices for fresh vegetables (except lettuce and tomato) by 10.4 percent, meat 2.9 percent, watermelon 39.0 percent, dairy products and eggs 1.6 percent, rice 1.1 percent, apple 6.7 percent, pulses 3.6 percent, fish (from the Persian Gulf and the Oman sea) 4.5 percent, candy, chocolate, jam and honey 1.4 percent, banana 4.1 percent, pomegranate 8.4 percent, biscuit, cake and cookies 1.5 percent, beverages 0.5 percent, nuts 0.7 percent, “butter” and “tangerine” each 2.4 percent, “vegetable products” and “salt, spices and sauces, condiments and food products” each 0.6 percent, canned fish 0.7 percent, and date 0.6 percent. Within the food and beverages group, decreases in the indices for citrus (except tangerine) by 4.7 percent, tomato 2.4 percent, fish (except fish from the Persian Gulf and the Oman sea) 2.2 percent, lettuce 3.2 percent, sugar and sugar lump 1.5 percent, and kiwi fruit 5.0 percent were also considerable in this month. The index for tobacco was virtually unchanged in Azar. The clothing and footwear index increased 0.7 percent, mostly as a result of the increases in the indices for ready to wear clothing by 0.7 percent, footwear 1.0 percent, clothing materials 0.4 percent, and tailoring, cleaning and laundering wage 0.8 percent. ____________________________________________________________ 1 The current Iranian year begins from March 20, 2016. 1

During this month , the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels index went up 1.5 percent which was attributed to the advances of the indices for “rental equivalence of owner occupied houses” and “rent of residential houses” each by 1.5 percent, and maintenance and repair services of the dwelling 0.5 percent. The furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance index rose 0.7 percent, largely due to the increases in the indices for glassware, tableware and household utensils by 1.1 percent, household appliances 0.7 percent, goods and services for routine household maintenance 1.0 percent, furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings 0.5 percent, and household textiles 0.8 percent. The index for health increased 0.6 percent, mostly as a result of the increases in the indices for medical, paramedical and dental services by 0.9 percent, medical products, appliances and equipment 0.6 percent, and hospital services 0.2 percent. The transport index went up 0.4 percent in Azar that was principally attributed to the increases in the indices for transport services by 0.9 percent and operation of personal transport equipment 0.6 percent. The index for communication rose 0.2 percent, mostly as a result of the increase in the index for telephone equipment by 1.6 percent. The recreation and culture index increased 1.5 percent, largely due to the increases in the indices for package holidays by 3.5 percent, other recreational items and equipment 2.4 percent, audio-visual, photographic and information processing equipment 1.2 percent, and recreational and cultural services 0.8 percent. The education index advanced 0.3 percent over this month, mostly as a result of the increase in the index for supplementary courses tuition fees by 2.3 percent. The index for restaurants and hotels rose 0.6 percent, mainly due to the advances in the indices for “food away from home” and “catering services” each by 0.7 percent. The miscellaneous goods and services index increased 0.7 percent in this month. Increases in the indices for personal care by 0.6 percent, goldsmith wage 1.3 percent, and personal effects 0.9 percent were the major reasons for this rise. 2
