M.I Ridwan Rais No. 5, Jakarta 10110 Phone: 021-3860371/Fax: 021-3508711 www.kemendag.go.id The Ministry of Trade Drives Competitive Halal Products to Compete in the Asia Pacific Market Jakarta, 20 June 2016 – The Ministry of Trade is intensifying its efforts to develop the market for Indonesian halal products so that they can move forward into the realm of world trade. This time, for the very first time, through the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office (IETO) in Taipei, Indonesia will be participating in the Taiwan International Halal Expo on 22-25 June 2016. The Acting Director General of National Export Development, Tjahya Widayanti, asserted that it is time for Indonesian halal products to compete to enter potential markets, particularly in the Asia Pacific Region considering more than half of the world’s Muslim population is centered in Asia, making Taiwan an important hub into the Asia Pacific for promoting halal products. “We hope that this exhibition could enhance the image of Indonesian halal products in the international scene, particularly in Taiwan. The Government continues to be committed to expanding the market for competitive halal products into the global market,” said Tjahya. Tjahya said that the demand for halal products is increasing. The exhibition, which will be held at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) Hall 1, Taipei, Taiwan, is expected to increase exports of halal products so that the high demand of the global market can be fulfilled, particularly demands in Taiwan. “The Taiwan International Halal Expo is expected to be the right moment for potential Indonesian halal products to compete in the global market that is competitive and integrated towards global economic development,” added Tjahya. The Taiwan International Halal Expo is one of the international standard exhibitions with a variety of products with halal certification starting from food products, drinks, health products, biotech products, pharmaceutical products, and cosmetics. This exhibition is held annually in conjunction with the Food Taipei, Foodtech & Pharmatech Taipei, Taipei Pack, and Taiwan HORECA. Indonesia, represented, represented by 12 participants, will add color to this international standard event with an exhibit on 108 m2 of space carrying the theme “Trade with Remarkable Indonesia”. The various products that will be showcased by the Indonesian participants are dominated by processed food products and cosmetics. The participants showcasing processed food products are PT. Bahtera Wiraniaga Internusa/Pronas with corned beef, PT. Monde Mahkota Biskuit (biscuits and wafers), PT. Domba Bali Persada (Balinese Civet Coffee), PT. Pacific Eastern Coconut Utama (coconut mil powder, coconut water). PT. Goldi Asiana Pangan (rice vermicelli, shrimp crackers), CV. Tri Bahagia Pratama (mangosteen peel juice and soursop leaves), PT. Sekawan Karsa Mulia (cokelat processed chocolate and
  2. powder ), CV. Saung Karuhun Berkah (flavored cassava chips), PT. Mikro Integrasi Total Solusi (dendeng, beef rendang), and CV. Karya Omega Abadi (instant seasoning). Meanwhile, the companies showcasing cosmetic products were CV. Sekawan and PT. Nucifera Alam Indonesia (VCO and cosmetics). In 2015, as a whole, the Taiwan International Halal Expo was taken part by a combined 1,642 domestic and international exhibitors. The visitors that came amounted to 66,911 people with 7,562 visitors from abroad comprising mostly of people from China, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the United States, Singapore, South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia. Meanwhile, SI recorded Indonesia’s non-oil and gas trade to Taiwan in 2015 to be a surplus of USD 514.5 million. In 2015, Indonesia was ranked 15th in the list of suppliers of processed food products to Taiwan below Italy, Singapore, Germany, Australia, and Vietnam.
