Malaysia's Sales Value of Wholesale Retail Trade Stood at RM97.4 Billion In March 2017

2. HIGHLIGHTS Sales value of Wholesale & Retail Trade stood at RM97.4 billion in March 2017, registering 8.9 per cent growth as compared to the corresponding period in 2016. The sales value consists of Wholesale Trade ( RM46.9 billion), Retail Trade (RM37.6 billion) and Motor Vehicles (RM12.9 billion) businesses. The positive growth was contributed by Retail Trade (11.8%). The volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade rose 7.0 per cent to 159.6 points in March 2017 as compared to March 2016. The growth was supported by the increase in Retail Trade ( 9.7%). The seasonally adjusted volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade increased 1.4 per cent as compared to the preceding month. Wholesale Trade Business Sales value of Wholesale Trade business registered 8.0 per cent growth to RM46.9 billion as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. On a monthly basis, sales value of this business increased 6.0 per cent. The volume index of Wholesale Trade grew 5.7 per cent to 166.9 points in March 2017 as compared to March 2016. Month-on-month, the volume index of Wholesale Trade (seasonally adjusted) increased 2.0 per cent as against the previous month. Retail Trade Business Retail Trade business recorded an increase in sales value to RM37.6 billion or 11.8 per cent as compared to last year. Month-on-month, this business went up 4.7 per cent. The volume index of Retail Trade rose 9.7 per cent to 163.1 points in March 2017 as compared to the same month a year earlier. Compared to February 2017, the seasonally adjusted volume index of Retail Trade went up 2.9 per cent. Motor Vehicles Business In this month, sales value of Motor Vehicles business increased 4.2 per cent to RM12.9 billion as compared to the same month of the preceding year. On a monthly basis, sales value of Motor Vehicles business increased 24.7 per cent. Year-on-year, the volume index of Motor Vehicles increased 3.3 per cent to 132.7 points in March 2017. The seasonally adjusted volume index of Motor Vehicles went up 1.2 per cent in March 2017 as against February 2017.
