IsDB approves US $577 million infrastructure projects for Cote D’Ivoire, Oman, Niger, Senegal and Yemen Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia October 2, 2017: The Board of Executive Directors (BED) of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has approved various infrastructure projects for Cote D’Ivoire, Oman, Niger, Senegal and Yemen. The BED gave the approval at the end of its 321st session at the Bank's headquarters in Jeddah. The BED also approved several projects for non-member countries through special operations. The funding approved by the (BED) covers environmental improvement and urban development in Côte d'Ivoire, modernization of secondary cities in Senegal, improvement of the University of Nizwa in Oman, and strengthening health system in Niger, as well as emergency funding for Yemen. The Board also reviewed a report on the US $500 million Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Fund which was approved by the BED in July. The Fund aims to finance scientific innovations in member countries and support science applications in development projects. The Country Partnership Strategy of the Bank Group was also discussed as well as a progress report on resource mobilization. Details of the projects approved by the Board are as follows: 1- Development Projects: - The Republic of Côte d'Ivoire: $ 276.2 million for the Cocody Bay Environmental Improvement and Urban Development Project –Côte d'Ivoire, - The Republic of Senegal: $ 146 million for the Secondary Cities Modernization Program (Promovilles) – Senegal. - The Republic of Niger: US$ 41 million for Strengthening health systems with Emphasis on Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health Services Project. - Sultanate of Oman :US$ ..011 million for Quality and Competitiveness Improvement of the University of Nizwa– Oman.
  2. - Republic of Yemen : US$ 2 million in emergency funding for Yemen. 2- Special Assistance Operations Under IDB Waqf Fund: - Expansion of Nadi Muslim Primary School, Nadi, Fiji (US$ 200,000). Completion of Al Falah Secondary School in Analamahitsy, Antananarivo, Madagascar (US$ 200,000). Purchase of building for Waikato Women’s Vocational Training and Counseling Centre, Waikato, New Zealand (US$ 200,000). Development of International Peace College South Africa (IPSA) North Wing College in Cape Town, South Africa (US$ 200,000). Construction of Al Iman Foundation Vocational Training Center, Lakeside, Johannesburg, South Africa (US$ 200,000). 3- Operations approved by the President IDB - - TA Grant on a proposed Project using Information and Communication Technology for Empowering People with Special Needs in Sudan (US$ 272000). TA Grant for Enhancing Wheat Productivity and Competitiveness Program in Iran (US$ 280000). Emergency Relief Assistance for the Heavy Flooding Affecting Several Communities in the Western Area of Freetown, Sierra Leone (US$ 280000).
