  2. • • • Mr. Hassan Scott Odierno Partner, Actuarial Partners Consulting Sdn Bhd • • • • He graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia with Bachelor Of Science (Honors) Majoring in Computer Science and commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant of the Army Reserve Unit (ROTU) in 1985 and 1984 respectively. He pursued his studies with International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) and Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) and graduated with Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP) and Islamic Financial Planner (IFP) in 2009 and 2012 respectively. • He started his career with Universal Life and General Insurance Sdn Bhd (Changed name to AETNA, ING and Now AIA) and spent 15 years with the company holding various management positions for both Life and General Insurance business. He left AETNA in 2000 as Vice President of Bumi Marketing Division and Regional Vice President of Life Division to join Amal Assurance Berhad (Changed name to CIMB Aviva and now Sun Life) as Assistant General Manager responsible for business development for two Years. He joined Takaful Ikhlas Sdn Bhd as General Manager, Business Operations and was part of the team to set-up the company. He spent 11 years with Takaful Ikhlas and left in 2013 as Executive Vice President. He joined Hong Leong MSIG Takaful Bhd (HLM Takaful) as Chief Executive Officer on 1/7/2013 and was with the company until June 2016. • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Younes Soualhi is the former Deputy Dean of the IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF) and a Lecturer in the Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh IIiBF, IIUM. He has taught Usul al-Fiqh subjects, Takaful and Retakaful, Islamic financial transactions in banking and Islamic capital market. • He serves as the Chairman of the Shari’ah Committee of HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad, the Chairman of the Shari’ah Board of Munich Re Takaful, a Shariah Committee member of Bursa Malaysia, and a founding member of the French Council of Islamic Finance (Coffis), Paris. • He has published more than 18 referred articles and has co-authored 3 books in shari’ah related issues as well as in Islamic Banking and Finance. He presented more than 50 papers in international conferences. He is actively involved in Islamic Banking and Finance as a lecturer, researcher, trainer and consultant. • He conducted research in collaboration with Amanie Business Solutions in Kuala Lumpur and with the International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA). He got his B.A in Shari’ah from Emir Abdulqadir University for Islamic Sciences in Algeria ,and his M.A and P.HD from IIUM and UM respectively. • Marcel Omar Papp is the head of Swiss Re’s Retakaful operation in Kuala Lumpur, after setting it up in 2009. The Retakaful branch is the global centre for Swiss Re’s Family and General Retakaful business, responsible for developing the firm’s Islamic Reinsurance business, products and processes. • Under his leadership Swiss Re Retakaful has become a market leader in South East Asia and has won several awards as ‘Best Retakaful operator in Asia’ in the past three years. • Until he moved to his current position, he was based in Hong Kong and Singapore for ten years in various underwriting roles, including head of the Casualty Treaty Desk and Product Manager Casualty for Asia. • He started his career in insurance more than 20 years ago as a claims broker in the London market working for Willis. He then moved to Union Re (Zurich) working in Client Market and Underwriting functions before joining Swiss Re in 1998. • Marcel Omar holds a Masters of Arts (Business Administration) from the University of Zurich (Switzerland) and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (A.C.I.I.) of London. Haji Wan Mohd Fadzlullah Bin Wan Abdullah Part time Lecturer at INCEIF Associate Professor Dr Younes Soualhi Senior Researcher, International Shariah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA’) Mr. Marcel Omar Papp Head Retakaful, Swiss Re Retakaful Hassan Scott Odierno has been a Partner with Actuarial Partners Consulting in Malaysia and involved in Takaful since 1996. His specialties are in life and Takaful consulting. He is the Appointed Actuary for both Takaful Operators as well as conventional insurers in Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Labuan and Hong Kong. He has been involved in assisting companies set up Takaful operations from feasibility studies to product and model development and business projections in countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain for both local companies as well as multinationals. He has also been involved in merger & acquisition exercises for insurers in countries such as Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and Bahrain. He is a co-author of the World Bank book Takaful and Mutual Insurance, co-author of the book Essential Guide to Takaful, a contributing author to the book Health Insurance in Asia and contributing author to the book Actuaries in Microinsurance – Managing risk for the underserved. He is also the external advisor to two universities in Malaysia to their risk management and actuarial science programs. Hassan is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and has a Bachelor of Science degree with high distinction in Mathematics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the USA.
