HIGHLIGHTS Manufacturing sector registered a sales value of RM67 .3 billion in December 2017 Malaysia’s December manufacturing sales continues to record a strong growth of 9.4 per cent, rising to RM67.3 billion as compared to RM61.5 billion reported a year ago. Year-on-year, the significant increase in sales value in December 2017 was due to the increase in Electrical and Electronic Products (9.3%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (12.5%) and Non-metallic Mineral Products, Basic Metal and Fabricated Metal Products (6.8%). These three sub-sectors contributed 80.5 per cent to the sales value of the manufacturing sector. Total employees engaged in the Manufacturing sector in December 2017 was 1,057,591 persons, an increase of 2.4 per cent or 24,694 persons as compared to 1,032,897 persons in December 2016. Salaries & wages paid rose 9.2 per cent (RM319.5 million) to record RM3,774.0 million, thus registering an average salaries & wages per employee of RM3,568 in December 2017. Sales value per employee gain 6.8 per cent to record RM63,597 as compared with the same month of the previous year. *Notes: Data for December 2017 is provisional.
