- Malaysia ’s economy is expected to grow slower between June to August 2018 The annual change of Leading Index (LI) which monitors the economic performance in advance increased 1.1% in February 2018. Nevertheless, the monthly change of LI showed a negative growth of 1.2% in the reference month. Expected Sales Value in Manufacturing Sector (-0.7%) and Real Imports of Semi Conductors (-0.6%) were the components that significantly caused the decrease. The Coincident Index (CI) which measures the current economic activity, decreased 0.1% in February 2018. Industrial Production Index (-0.3%) and Capacity Utilisation in Manufacturing sector (-0.2%) were among the components that contributed to the decrease. The annual change of CI rose 3.0% in the reference month. The annual changes of LI and CI were slower than the previous month. Concurrently, the Diffusion Index for CI remained at 66.7% while LI was below 50.0%. Based on this scenario, Malaysia’s economy is expected to grow slower between June to August 2018.
