- EMBARGO : Only to be published or disseminated at 1200 hours, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS MALAYSIA PRESS RELEASE SPECIAL RELEASE 2 (FOR BUILDING AND STRUCTURAL WORKS) Performance Review – Indices (December 2020) Without steel bars: As compared to the previous month, the BCI for almost all region in Peninsular Malaysia decreased between 0.1 and 0.5 per cent for almost all building categories. Meanwhile, the BCI in region A (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis) increased between 0.4 and 0.5 per cent for almost all categories of building except for Timber Building and (R.C.) Piling which decreased by 0.1 per cent. The BCI in Sabah decreased between 0.1 and 2.4 per cent for almost all categories of building. However, the BCI in Kota Kinabalu increased by 1.0 per cent for Single Storey Steel Frame (Building) and 2.0 per cent for Single Storey Steel Frame (Tower only). The BCI in Kuching and Miri increased between 0.1 and 0.7 per cent for almost all building categories. With steel bars: The BCI in Peninsular Malaysia in region A (Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis), C (Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan) and F (Terengganu & Kelantan) increased between 0.1 and 1.0 per cent for almost all categories of building. Meanwhile, the BCI in region B (Perak), D (Johor) and E (Pahang) decreased between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent for almost all building categories. However, the BCI increased by 0.1 per cent for Single Storey (R.C.) Building in region B (Perak) & E (Pahang) and (R.C.) Piling in region D (Johor). The BCI in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan increased between 0.1 and 2.0 per cent for almost all building categories. The BCI in Tawau showed a decrease between 0.2 and 2.4 per cent for almost all categories of building. The BCI in Kuching and Miri increased between 0.1 and 1.8 per cent for almost all building categories. Changes in Unit Price Indices (December 2020) The changes in unit price indices of building materials by region across Malaysia are shown in Table 1.
