  3. Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers in Iran Esfand 1396 (1395=100) The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 1.1 percent in Esfand 13961. The index level of 114.7 was 8.3 percent higher than in Esfand 1395. The inflation rate has advanced 9.6 percent over the last twelve months. The food and beverages index increased 1.5 percent in Esfand, mainly due to the increases in the indices for fresh fruits (except apple and orange) by 4.9 percent, meat 2.0 percent, eggs 13.4 percent, imported rice 9.4 percent, fish and seafood 3.9 percent, nuts 2.5 percent, potato 2.7 percent, beverages 0.9 percent, biscuit, cake and cookies 1.7 percent, sugar, sugar lump, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionary 0.8 percent, oils and fats 0.7 percent, vegetable products 1.2 percent, good quality rice" and "salt, spices, sauces, condiments and food products" each 0.6 percent, and pasta 0.7 percent. Within the food and beverages group, decreases in the indices for fresh vegetables (except potato) by 8.0 percent, orange 1.9 percent, apple 1.2 percent, pulses 0.5 percent, and high quality rice 0.2 percent were also considerable in this month. The index for tobacco rose 15.9 percent in Esfand, due to the increases in the indices for imported cigarettes by 15.6 percent and domestic cigarettes 16.9 percent. The clothing and footwear index turned up 0.9 percent, mostly as a result of the increases in the indices for ready to wear clothing by 1.2 percent, clothing materials 1.9 percent, and tailoring, cleaning and laundering wage 0.8 percent. The index for footwear decreased by 0.1 percent in this month. During this month, the housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels index went up 0.7 percent which was attributed to the advances of the indices for "rental equivalence of owner occupied houses", "rent of residential houses" and "maintenance and repair services of the dwelling" each by 0.7 percent. The furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance index rose 1.5 percent, largely due to the increases in the indices for goods and services for ____________________________________________________________ 1 The current Iranian year begins from March 21, 2017. 1
  4. routine household maintenance by 2 .1 percent, household appliances 1.5 percent, glassware, tableware and household utensils 2.0 percent, furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings 0.8 percent, household textiles 1.4 percent, and tools and equipment for house 1.5 percent. The index for health increased 0.5 percent, mostly as a result of the increases in the indices for medical, paramedical and dental services by 0.7 percent, medical products, appliances and equipment 0.5 percent, and hospital services 0.3 percent. The transport index went up 1.0 percent in Esfand that was principally attributed to the increases in the indices for personal transport vehicles by 1.6 percent, operation of personal transport equipment 0.7 percent, and passenger transport by air (abroad) 6.0 percent. The index for communication increased 0.1 percent in Esfand. The recreation and culture index rose 6.7 percent in Esfand, largely due to the increases in the indices for package holidays by 28.4 percent, other recreational items and equipment 2.7 percent, "radio, television set, and equipment for recording and reproducing of sound and pictures" and "stationery" each 1.4 percent, and recreational and cultural services 0.6 percent. The education index went up 0.1 percent in this month. The index for restaurants and hotels rose 1.1 percent, mainly due to the advances in the indices for food away from home by 0.8 percent, accommodation services 6.7 percent, and catering services 1.2 percent. The miscellaneous goods and services index increased 1.5 percent in this month. Increases in the indices for "personal care" and "goldsmith wage" each by 1.8 percent, and personal effects 0.9 percent were the major reasons for this rise. 2
