- Exports On a month-on-month (m-o-m) basis, in October 2017, the export unit value index rose 0.3% to 112.5 points. This was mainly contributed by animal & vegetable oils & fats (+1.9%), mineral fuels (+1.3%) and chemicals (+0.9%). Meanwhile, the export volume index also increased 5.0% to 137.7 points which was led by inedible crude materials (+13.1%), chemicals (+12.7%) and mineral fuels (+9.8%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index recorded a rise of 3.6% to 130.8 points. When compared to the previous year, the export unit value index and export volume index posted increases of 5.3% and 13.2% respectively. Imports In October 2017, the import unit value index grew 0.5% to 115.8 points which was attributed mainly to mineral fuels (+3.1%) and animal & vegetable oils & fats (+2.7%). Meanwhile, the import volume index also increased 2.7% to 141.0 points. This increase was led by mineral fuels (+13.6%) followed by inedible crude materials (+8.8%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+5.5%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index declined 2.0% to 132.1 points. On a year-on-year basis, the import unit value index and import volume index registered increases of 5.1% and 15.1% respectively. Terms of trade Malaysia’s terms of trade fell 0.2% to 97.1 points when compared with September 2017. Meanwhile, a rise of 0.2% was recorded year-on-year basis.
