Macroeconomic & Corporate News Security forces announce elimination of Karak terror cell Four terrorists were killed in a security operation in the southern governorate of Karak that ended towards midnight on Sunday after 10 people were killed in a terror attack, including four police officers and three gendarmes. Two civilians and a Canadian citizen were also killed, while 34 other civilians and police officers were injured when four gunmen stormed the southern city and fired at security and civilians before heading to Karak Castle, official sources said. A joint statement by the public security and gendarmerie departments said their personnel were sweeping the area to make sure that there were no other terrorists. An investigation was opened to identify the gunmen and their affiliation. ‘Public healthcare services to Syrian refugees costing Jordan JD271m annually’ The annual cost of providing healthcare services to Syrian refugees at public facilities is around JD271 million, a figure that is expected to increase in 2017 and onward in light of growing needs, an official said on Sunday. The figure increased in 2016 due to the growing demand for healthcare services, as well as other factors that include an increase in prices of medications, the Health Ministry’s spokesperson, Hatem Azruie, told The Jordan Times over the phone. Fariz reappointed as CBJ governor The Council of Ministers on Sunday decided to reappoint Ziad Fariz as governor of the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) and Maher Sheikh Hassan as CBJ deputy governor, for a five-year term each, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. Fariz, a former finance minister, was first appointed as CBJ governor in 2012. ‘31,000 jobs created in second half of 2015’ Job opportunities created during the second half of 2015 amounted up to around 31,000 jobs compared to 30,000 jobs during the same period in 2014, according to a report issued by the Department of Statistics (DoS) on Sunday.
