HIGHLIGHTS Manufacturing sector registered a sales value of RM65 .4 billion in September 2017 Malaysia’s September manufacturing sales continues to record a strong growth of 10.6 per cent, rising to RM65.4 billion as compared to RM59.1 billion reported a year ago. Year-on-year, the significant increase in sales value in September 2017 was due to the increase in Electrical and Electronic Products (9.2%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (15.5%) and Non-metallic Mineral Products, Basic Metal and Fabricated Metal Products (6.9%). These three sub-sectors contributed 80.6 per cent to the sales value of the manufacturing sector. Total employees engaged in the Manufacturing sector in September 2017 was 1,054,682 persons, an increase of 2.5 per cent or 25,943 persons as compared to 1,028,739 persons in September 2016. Salaries & wages paid rose 10.0 per cent (RM325.2 million) to record RM3,577.0 million, thus registering an average salaries & wages per employee of RM3,392 in September 2017. Sales value per employee gain 7.9 per cent to record RM61,997 as compared with the same month of the previous year. *Notes: Data for September 2017 is provisional.
