HIGHLIGHTS Manufacturing sector registered a sales value of RM66 .3 billion in October 2017 Malaysia’s October manufacturing sales continues to record a strong growth of 11.0 per cent, rising toRM66.3 billion as compared to RM59.7 billion reported a year ago. Year-on-year, the significant increase in sales value in October 2017 was due to the increase in Electrical and Electronic Products (7.5%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (18.0%) and Non-metallic Mineral Products, Basic Metal and Fabricated Metal Products (7.9%). These three sub-sectors contributed 80.1 per cent to the sales value of the manufacturing sector. Total employees engaged in the Manufacturing sector in October 2017 was 1,053,335 persons, an increase of 2.4 per cent or 24,194 persons as compared to 1,029,141 persons in October 2016. Salaries & wages paid rose 9.6 per cent (RM311.3 million) to record RM3,541.7 million, thus registering an average salaries & wages per employee of RM3,362 in October 2017. Sales value per employee gain 8.5 per cent to record RM62,956 as compared with the same month of the previous year. *Notes: Data for October 2017 is provisional.
