- EMBARGO : Only to be published or disseminated at 1200 hours, Thursday, 10 August 2017 DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS MALAYSIA PRESS RELEASE Special Release 2 (For Building And Structural Works) July 2017 Peninsular Malaysia The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) in region A-Northern, B-Perak and E-Pahang showed an increase for some categories of building in July 2017. On the other hand, the BCI in region C-Central and F-Eastern decrease for some categories of building. While, the BCI in region D-Johor remained unchanged as compared to the previous month. The unit price indices of building materials that showed changes (increase/decrease) in July 2017 as compared to the previous month are as follows:
- Sabah The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) in Sabah recorded increases for single storey (R.C.) building, single storey steel frame (building) and single storey steel frame (tower only) in Kota Kinabalu in July 2017. While, the BCI in Sandakan and Tawau remained unchanged as compared to the previous month. The BCI (with steel bars) in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan showed increases for almost all building categories in July 2017. In contrast, the BCI in Tawau showed decreases as compared to June 2017. The changes in the unit price indices for building materials by region in Sabah are shown in Table 2. Sarawak The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) in Sibu showed increases 0.1 per cent for single storey (R.C.) building, 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (pitched roof), 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for office) and single storey steel frame (building) in July 2017. On the other hand, the BCI for (R.C.) piling in Kuching decreased 0.1 per cent. While, the BCI in Miri remained unchanged as compared to the previous month. The BCI (with steel bars) in Kuching and Sibu showed decreases for almost all categories of buildings in July 2017. Meanwhile, the BCI in Miri remained unchanged as compared to the previous month.
