EMBARGO : Only to be published or disseminated at 1200 hours, Friday, 19 August 2016 DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS MALAYSIA PRESS RELEASE INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT POSITION, SECOND QUARTER 2016 Overall International Investment Position Malaysia's net international investment position at the end of second quarter 2016 recorded net liabilities position of RM4.9 billion from net assets position of RM10.9 billion in Q1 2016. This was due to the decrease in stock of Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) by RM24.0 billion to record RM515.8 billion at the end of Q2 2016 (Q1 2016: RM528.8 billion). While Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stock in Malaysia accounted for RM508.6 billion at the end of June 2016 (Q1 2016: RM497.7 billion). At the end of Q2 2016, portfolio investment showed net liabilities position of RM351.7 billion from net liabilities of RM355.9 billion in the previous quarter. In the meantime, the position of other investment at the end of June 2016 recorded net liabilities of RM52.6 billion. The international reserves of Bank Negara Malaysia at the end of June 2016 stood at RM390.3 billion (Q1 2016: RM381.5 billion).
