- Exports On a-month-on-month (m-o-m) basis, in March 2017, the export unit value index registered an increase of 0.2% to 113.6 points. This was mainly attributed to mineral fuels (+1.2%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (+0.9%) and chemicals (+0.8%). Similarly, the export volume index also rose 14.9% to 136.8 points. This was led by mineral fuels (+18.5%), machinery & transport equipment (+18.2%) and manufactured goods (+17.2%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index decreased 0.4%. When compared to the previous year, the export unit value index and export volume index increased 10.4% and 12.4% respectively. Imports In March 2017, the import unit value index increased 0.5% to 116.2 points, month-on-month (m-o-m), which was led by manufactured goods (+1.0%), chemicals (+0.9%) and mineral fuels (+0.7%). Similarly, the import volume index also rose 21.9% to 151.1 points. This was mainly attributed to machinery & transport equipment (+42.0%) followed by miscellaneous manufactured articles (+25.7%) and chemicals (+22.1%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index increased 4.5%. On a-year-on-year basis, the import unit value index and import volume index increased 8.5% and 28.6% respectively. Terms of trade In March 2017, Malaysia’s terms of trade decreased 0.3% to 97.7 points when compared with February 2017. Meanwhile, a rise of 1.8% was recorded year-on-year.
