  2. Exports On a-month-on-month basis , in December 2016, the export unit value index increased 2.5% to 110.7 points. This was led by mineral fuels (+6.9%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (+6.7%) and chemicals (+1.9%). Similarly, the export volume index also recorded an increase 1.2% to 128.3 points. This was mainly attributed to miscellaneous manufactured articles (+10.0%), manufactured articles (+3.4%) and mineral fuels (+3.1%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index decreased 0.9%. When compared to the previous year, the export unit value index and export volume index increased 3.5% and 6.8% respectively. Imports In December 2016, the import unit value index registered an increase of 1.8% to 114.0 points which was attributed to mineral fuels (+6.8%), food (+1.8%) and machinery and transport equipment (+1.2%). Meanwhile the import volume index recorded an increase 3.0% to 133.3 points. This was mainly led by manufactured goods (+7.6%), followed by chemicals (+4.6%) and machinery and transport equipment (+3.6%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index dropped 4.1%. On a-year-on-year basis, the import unit value index recorded an increase of 4.8% while the import volume index recorded an increase of 6.4%. Terms of trade In December 2016, Malaysia’s terms of trade recorded an increase of 0.7% to 97.1 points when compared with the preceding month, while a reduction of 1.3% was recorded year-on-year.
