3. Producer Price Index in Iran Ordibehesht 1396 (1390 = 100) The Producer Price Index (PPI) was virtually unchanged in Ordibehesht 1396 following an increase of 0.4 percent in Farvardin 1396. The index level of 236.2 was 8.5 percent higher than in Ordibehesht 1395. For the first 2 months of 1396, the PPI edged up 8.9 percent, compared to the similar period in 1395. This index moved up 5.9 percent for the 12 months ended in Ordibehesht 1396. Agriculture, forestry and fishing: In Ordibehesht, a 0.4-percent decrease in the prices of this group can be traced to the falls in the indices for eggplant, snap beans, fresh broad bean, leaf vegetables, greengage, poultry, egg and Persian Gulf fish. In contrast, prices for colza, strawberry, tea, and raising of sheep and goats went up. Manufacturing: The Manufacturing group index declined 0.5 percent, which was mostly due to the falls in the indices for soya, craft paper, methanol, manufacture of plastics and synthetic rubber in primary forms, porcelain, iron beam, staple copper, lead and zinc products and metal cans offset increases in the indices for canned fish, juice and concentrated fruits, cooking oil, pasteurized cheese, manufacture of beverages, spinning of thread, knitting of fabric, machine-made carpet, wood and lumber, newspaper, jet propulsion fuel 1

(type 4), acetic acid, exported ammonia, manufacture of soap and detergents and cosmetic products, vial, brick, cement sleeper, building insulations, copper concentrate, pressure tanks and central heating boilers, gas meter, electromotor and dynamo, transformer, fluorescent lamp, pump, roller, manufacture of metal-forming machinery and machine tools, car cylinder, gearbox of car and motorcycles. Services: Increases in the indices of freight by truck, movie ticket and teaching painting tuition fees mainly led to 0.8 percent rise in the services group index. 2
