3. Export Price Index in Iran Mehr 1396 (1390 = 100) The Export Price Index (XPI) increased 4.7 percent in Mehr 1396 following a 3.7 percent rise in Shahrivar 1396. The index level of 261.1 was 22.0 percent higher than in Mehr 1395. During the first seven months of the current Iranian year, the XPI rose 15.3 percent compared to the similar period in 1395. The XPI has advanced 12.1 percent over the past twelve months. In Mehr, the animal products group index rose 3.3 percent, which was mainly due to the rises in the prices for shrimp, yogurt, and frozen fish. The vegetable products group index went up 2.9 percent. Increases in the prices for pistachio, raisin, date, and liquorice extract powder were the major reasons for this advance, while the price for saffron went down. The animal or vegetable fats and oils group index rose 12.9 percent, over this month. The prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco group index advanced 2.4 percent. The mentioned rise was attributed to the increases in the prices for tomato paste, biscuit and wafer, cake, ice cream, potato chips, and non-cacao chocolate. The 5.0 percent increase in the mineral products group index was led by rises in the prices for propane, butane, industrial oil, paraffin wax, cement, bitumen, and copper concentrate.  The index is computed on the Iranian Rial basis. In this month, the exchange rates of Dollar and Euro increased 2.2 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively. 1
4. The products of the chemical or allied industries group index turned up 8 .0 percent. Higher prices for methanol, ammonia, styrene, urea fertilizer, molybdenum-oxide, and "detergent powders and liquids" were the major factors for this increase. Mostly as a result of increasing in the prices for low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, and plastic hoses, the plastics and articles thereof, rubber and articles thereof group index moved up 6.5 percent. During this month, higher price for processed sheep skin led to the advance in the group index for skins and leather and articles thereof by 10.3 percent. The wood and articles of wood group index went up 9.1 percent. The textiles and textile articles group index turned up 2.1 percent, largely due to the increases in the prices for hand-woven carpet and machine-made carpet. The footwear group index moved up 1.3 percent, over this month. The articles of stone group index moved up 2.9 percent which was principally due to the advances in the prices for float glass and "tile and ceramic". The base metals and articles of base metal group index advanced 4.5 percent in Mehr. The rise was driven by increasing prices for hot coil iron, zinc ingot, steel profile, cathode copper, aluminium ingot, and lead ingot. The machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment group index increased 2.2 percent, over this month, mostly as a result of the increase in the price for cable. The vehicles and associated transport equipment group index went down 19.0 percent, mainly due to the fall in the price for tractor. 2
