BANGLADESH BANK PRESS RELEASE (Import LCs opening and settlement during July, 2016-June, 2017 & July, 2015-June, 2016) The total value of import LCs opened by Authorized Dealer banks during July, 2016-June, 2017 was US$ 48125.92 million which was 11.05% higher than that of the same period of the previous year (US$ 43335.33 million). Value of LCs settled during July, 2016-June, 2017 totaled was US$ 44272.76 million which was also 10.47% higher than that of the same period of the previous year (US$ 40076.20 million). The table below shows the significant increases in LCs opening of rice 140.81%, wheat 23.73%, pulses(all sorts) 33.70%, sugar 62.61%, fresh & dry fruits 26.35%, milk food 46.40%, drugs & medicines 1.32% and decreases in onion 31.97%, edible oil 2.35% which are the major components of consumer goods. Significant increase noticed in opening of LCs in yarn, pharmacuticals raw materials, cement, Clinker & Lime Stone, Coal & Coke, Capital Machinery & Paper & Paper board which was recorded a growth of 10.04 %, 12.02% , 59.38 %, 11.56%, 41.89%, 10.54% & 3.23% respectively during the period under review.
