BANGLADESH BANK PRESS RELEASE (Import LCs opening and settlement during July, 2016-May, 2017 & July, 2015-May, 2016) The total value of import LCs opened by Authorized Dealer banks during July, 2016-May, 2017 was US$ 44118.71 million which was 13.97% higher than that of the same period of the previous year (US$ 38711.89 million). Value of LCs settled during July, 2016-May, 2017 totaled was US$ 40998.48 million which was also 11.83% higher than that of the same period of the previous year (US$ 36661.44 million). The table below shows the significant increases in LCs opening of wheat 28.14%, pulses(all sorts) 42.60%, sugar 94.86%, fresh & dry fruits 26.53%, milk food 49.12%, drugs & medicines 2.65% and decreases in rice 20.18%, onion 30.29%, edible oil 0.60% which are the major components of consumer goods. Significant increase noticed in opening of LCs in yarn, pharmacuticals raw materials, cement, Clinker & Lime Stone, Coal & Coke, Capital Machinery & Paper & Paper board which was recorded a growth of 11.87 %, 16.59% , 88.16 %, 15.57%, 40.35%, 22.22% & 5.81% respectively during the period under review.
