Macroeconomic & Corporate News Petroleum company to invest JD12m to boost gas production The state-owned National Petroleum Company will implement a JD12-million project to boost gas production from the Risheh gas field to 16.5 million of cubic feet per day by the end of 2018, Ghaleb Maabreh, the company’s chairman, said on Saturday. Currently, the daily production from thousand the field stands at 10 million cubic feet, he told The Jordan Times. The company will implement some projects to rehabilitate some wells in the field and it will conduct maintenance on several other wells to boost their production, he said. Upon the completion of the plan, the field’s contribution to the overall energy needs of Jordan will rise to 3 per cent, according to Maabreh, who said that the company will benefit from studies previously conducted by British Petroleum on the gas field. He noted that the company decided to implement the project after the government announced the amendment of the gas prices sold by the company to its clients. PM urges investors to report threats, blackmailing Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Thursday said that protecting investors from assaults and other “intolerable” acts is an inherent approach in government policies that does not come only as a reaction to a specific incident, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. During a meeting with 40 investors and representatives of relevant institutions, Mulki stressed that the government would not tolerate violations against investors carried out by "outlaws" and will apply the law to "all". He said that the government would take firm measures during the few coming days against blackmailing and assaulting investors. PSD creates investment protection unit Director of the Public Security Department (PSD) Maj. Gen. Ahmad Faqih on Saturday instructed the establishment of a special independent unit to provide all kinds of protection to investors.Establishing the unit is aimed at having direct, specialised and “strict” methods in dealing with investors’ complaints about blackmailing and extortion, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
