Macroeconomic & Corporate News Jordan to keep COVID-19 precautionary measures Jordan will keep precautionary measures against COVID-19 until the end of December, including movement restrictions during Fridays, Ali Al-Ayed, the State Minister for Media Affairs, said in a report from news agency Petra. Ayed added that the health ministry is coordinating with major international companies to procure from them the coronavirus vaccine, and that it will do all it can to be provided “a suitable quantity of it to the public according to priorities.” “The only vaccine available so far is the mask and commitment to the other preventive measures, including physical distancing and using sterilizers,” he said. Ayed noted that adherence to preventive measures have resulted into reduced coronavirus cases over the last two weeks. The minister also said the government is aware of the “magnitude of challenges the citizens are experiencing in view of the exceptional circumstancing resulting from the pandemic,” and would study any amendment to earlier decisions aimed at curbing the spread of the virus. King inaugurates 19th Parliament’s non-ordinary session, delivers Speech from the Throne His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday inaugurated the 19th Parliament’s non-ordinary session and delivered the Speech from the Throne. Addressing Jordanians, King Abdullah said in the speech: "You are the people of resolve. Let us show our patriotism in action, dedication and achievement, so that Jordan would remain strong and proud, and your heads remain held high." Noting that Jordan is preparing to usher in the state’s centennial, His Majesty said: "Those who know this nation’s history, stand in awe of its journey, over a hundred years, as it stood tall and proud like Jordan’s mountains, and as it was built with the resolve of its people." The King said Jordan has successfully held parliamentary elections, despite COVID-19, adding that the priority in dealing with the pandemic is the health and wellbeing of citizens, and continuing to safeguard the national economy. Stocks inch higher in daily trading session The Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) closed Thursday's trading session up by 0.49 percent at 1,592 points. A total of 5.2 million shares were traded through 2,447 transactions at a trading value of JD5.2 million. The closing prices of 38 companies with traded shares went up, while 13 others declined.
