Definition of "Al-mustakbirin"

Qur’anic term for well-to-do people in a society. The Qur’an comments on unjust distribution of economic power, which results in emergence of two distinct classes in the society: al-mustakbirin and al-mustad‘af in. The former are economically powerful and corrupt people who oppress the weaker sections of the society. The latter consist of economically weak and oppressed people who remain contented with their fate.
