HIGHLIGHTS Manufacturing sector registered a sales value of RM65 .1 billion in August 2017 Malaysia’s August manufacturing sales continues to record a strong growth of 16.5 per cent, rising to RM65.1 billion as compared to RM55.9 billion reported a year ago. Year-on-year, the significant increase in sales value in August 2017 was due to the increase in Electrical and Electronic Products (19.8%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (21.0%) and Non-metallic Mineral Products, Basic Metal and Fabricated Metal Products (7.2%). These three sub-sectors contributed 80.3 per cent to the sales value of the manufacturing sector. Total employees engaged in the Manufacturing sector in August 2017 was 1,054,482 persons, an increase of 2.6 per cent or 26,391 persons as compared to 1,028,091 persons in August 2016. Salaries & wages paid rose 10.6 per cent (RM338.4 million) to record RM3,529.6 million, thus registering an average salaries & wages per employee of RM3,347 in August 2017. Sales value per employee gain 13.6 per cent to record RM61,747 as compared with the same month of the previous year. *Notes: Data for August 2017 is provisional.
