2. HIGHLIGHTS Volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade rose 7.9 per cent to 158.3 points in August 2017 as compared to August 2016. The growth was supported by the increase in Retail Trade ( 11.9 %). Seasonally adjusted volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade grew 1.2 per cent as compared to the preceding month. Sales value of Wholesale & Retail Trade stood at RM97.7 billionin August 2017, registering 9.8 per cent growth as compared to the corresponding period in 2016. The sales value consists of Wholesale Trade ( RM47.4 billion), Retail Trade (RM38.0 billion) and Motor Vehicles (RM12.3 billion) businesses.The positive growth was contributed by Retail Trade (13.4%). Wholesale Trade Business Volume index of Wholesale Trade grew 6.2 per cent to 169.4 points in August 2017 as compared to August 2016. Month-on-month, this volume index (seasonally adjusted) increased 3.8 per cent as against the previous month. Sales value of Wholesale Trade business registered 8.9 per cent growth to RM47.4 billion as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. Month-on-month, sales value of this business increased 3.3 per cent. Retail Trade Business Volume index of Retail Trade rose 11.9 per cent to 158.8 points in August 2017 as compared to the same month a year earlier. Compared to July 2017, seasonally adjusted volume index of Retail Trade recorded negative growth 1.1 per cent. Retail Trade business recorded an increase in sales value to RM38.0 billion or 13.4 per cent as compared to last year. Month-on-month, this business registered negative growth 0.7 per cent.
3. Motor Vehicles Business Year-on-year , volume index of Motor Vehicles increased 1.4 per cent to 128.7 points in August 2017. Seasonally adjusted volume index of Motor Vehicles went up 1.8 per cent in August 2017 as against July 2017. In this month, sales value of Motor Vehicles business increased 2.8 per cent to RM12.3 billion as compared to the same month of the preceding year. Sales value of Motor Vehicles business registered negative growth 0.2 per cent as compared to the previous month.
