2. HIGHLIGHT The Distributive Trade sector recorded sales value of RM87 .4 billion in May 2016 with a growth of 5.0 per cent as compared to the corresponding period in 2015. This increase was propelled by Retail Trade sub-sector (8.2%) and Wholesale Trade sub-sector (4.8%) while Motor Vehicles sub-sector decreased to -2.9 per cent. On a monthly basis, sales value of this sector showed an increase of 3.2 per cent. The index of Distributive Trade for May 2016 posted an increase of 5.8 per cent, year-on-year. The growth was led by Wholesale Trade (9.0%) and Retail Trade (6.5%). Motor Vehicles sub-sector registered a decline to -4.3 per cent. In seasonally adjusted terms, index of Distributive Trade grew by 2.2 per cent as compared to the preceding month.
