- EMBARGO : Only to be published or disseminated at 1200 hours, Tuesday, 10 January 2017 DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS MALAYSIA PRESS RELEASE Special Release 2 (For Building And Structural Works) December 2016 Peninsular Malaysia The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) for several categories of building in regions A-Northern and EPahang showed increases in December 2016. The BCI for 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for accommodation) in region CCentral also showed an increase of 0.1 per cent. Meanwhile, the BCI for all categories of building in regions B-Perak, D-Johor and F-Eastern showed no change as compared to the previous month. The BCI (with steel bars) for all categories of building in all regions recorded increases in December 2016 except in region DJohor which remained unchanged as compared to November 2016. The unit price indices of building materials that showed changes (increase/decrease) in December 2016 compared to the previous month are as follows:
- Sabah The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) in Sabah recorded a decrease in Kota Kinabalu for single storey steel frames (building) category in December 2016. Meanwhile, all other types of building categories showed no change in index as compared to the previous month. The BCI for all categories of building in Sandakan and Tawau also remained unchanged in December 2016 as compared to November 2016. The BCI (with steel bars) in Kota Kinabalu recorded a decrease of 0.1 per cent for single storey steel frame (tower only) building category. Similarly, the BCI in Sandakan for single storey (R.C.) building, 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for accommodation), 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for office) and (R.C.) piling building categories recorded decreases of 0.1 per cent in December 2016 as compared to the previous month. Changes in the unit price indices for building materials by region in Sabah are as follows: Sarawak The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) in Kuching and Miri showed increases for almost all categories of buildings in December 2016. In contrast, the BCI in Sibu remained unchanged as compared to the previous month.
