EMBARGO : Only to be published or disseminated at 1200 hours, Tuesday, 9 May 2017 DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS MALAYSIA PRESS RELEASE Special Release 2 (For Building And Structural Works) April 2017 The Building Material Cost Index (without steel bars and with steel bars) for several categories of buildings in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak increased in April 2017 as compared to March 2017 Peninsular Malaysia The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) for several categories of building in region ANorthern, B-Perak, C-Central and F-Eastern increased in April 2017. While, the BCI (without steel bars and with steel bars) in region D-Johor and E-Pahang remain unchanged as compared to the previous month. The unit price indices of building materials that showed changes (increase/decrease) in April 2017 as compared to the previous month are as follows:

Sabah The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) in Sabah recorded an increase in Tawau for almost all building categories except for timber piling, single storey steel frame (building) and single storey steel frame (tower only) in April 2017. While, the BCI in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan remain unchanged as compared to the previous month. The BCI (with steel bars) for almost all categories of building in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau increased in April 2017. While, the BCI in Sandakan remain unchanged as compared to the previous month. The changes in the unit price indices for building materials by region in Sabah are as follows: Sarawak The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) in Sarawak increased for almost all categories of buildings in Kuching and Miri in April 2017. While, the BCI in Sibu remain unchanged as compared to the previous month.
