- EMBARGO : Only to be published or disseminated at 1200 hours, Friday, 9 June 2017 DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS MALAYSIA PRESS RELEASE Special Release 2 (For Building And Structural Works) May 2017 The Building Material Cost Index (without steel bars and with steel bars) for almost all categories of buildings in Peninsular Malaysia increased in May 2017 as compared to April 2017 Peninsular Malaysia The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) for all categories of building in all regions increased in May 2017 except for (R.C.) piling (with steel bars) in region A-North which decreased by 0.3 points as compared to the previous month. The unit price indices of building materials that showed changes (increase/decrease) in May 2017 as compared to the previous month are as follows:
- Sabah The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars) in Tawau recorded an increase of 0.1 per cent for single storey (R.C.) building and 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (pitched roof) in May 2017. While, the BCI for Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan remained unchange as compared to the previous month. The BCI (with steel bars) in all regions remained unchange except for 5 storey and above (R.C.) building (for office) in Tawau which recorded an increase of 0.1 per cent as compared to the previous month. The changes in the unit price indices for building materials by region in Sabah are as follows: Sarawak The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars and with steel bars) in Miri increased for several categories of buildings in May 2017. In contrast, the BCI in Kuching showed decreases for almost all categories of buildings except 2-4 storey (R.C.) building (flat roof) which remained unchange. Meanwhile, the BCI in Sibu showed no change as compared to the previous month. The changes in the unit price indices for building materials by region in Sarawak are as follows: Notes: R.C. = Reinforced Concrete *Region: A = Pulau Pinang, Kedah and Perlis B = Perak C = Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor D = Johor E = Pahang F = Kelantan and Terengganu
