  2. INTRODUCTION This report presents statistics on services sector obtained from the Economic Census 2016 for reference year 2015 . Services sector encompass Electricity, gas, steam & air conditioning supply; Water supply; sewerage, waste management & remediation activities; Wholesale & retail trade; Transport and storage; Accommodation; Food & beverage; Information & communication; Finance; Real estate; Professional, scientific & technical; Administrative & support service; Education; Health & social work; Arts, entertainment & recreation; and Personal services & other activities. PERFORMANCE OF SERVICES SECTOR In 2015, number of establishments operated in the Services sector were 818,311 establishments. Income, value of gross output and value added generated by this sector were RM2,004.5 billion, RM964.7 billion and RM518.3 billion respectively. This sector registered 4,795,721 number of persons engaged with salaries & wages paid amounting to RM131.5 billion and value of fixed assets was recorded at RM904.4 billion. In terms of overall economy, Services sector recorded the highest contribution for number of establishments with 88.9 per cent. Meanwhile, value of gross output and number of persons engaged in Services sector contributed 38.7 per cent and 54.9 per cent respectively to overall economy of Malaysia in 2015. NUMBER OF PERSONS ENGAGED The number of persons engaged in Services sector were 4,795,721 persons, of which 3,813,335 persons or 79.5 per cent were paid full-time employees. A total of 779,422 persons (16.3%) were working proprietors and unpaid family workers, while paid parttime employees were 202,964 persons (4.2%). WOMEN-OWNED ESTABLISHMENTS In 2015, there were 173,536 women-owned establishments in Services sector as compared to 116,758 establishments in 2010, which posted an annual growth rate of 8.2 per cent. Wholesale & retail trade recorded the highest number of women-owned establishments with 81,877 establishments, followed by Food & beverage (55,396 establishments) and Personal services & other activities (12,899 establishments).
