- INTRODUCTION This publication presents statistics on transportation and storage services that were compiled based on Economic Census undertaken in 2016 for reference year 2015 . Transportation and storage services encompasses land transport; water transport; air transport; warehousing & support activities and post & courier services. PERFORMANCE OF TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE SERVICES The census results showed that there were 54,190 establishments operated in transportation and storage services compared to 40,599 establishments in 2010 with annual growth rate of 5.9 per cent. Value of gross output generated for this services amounted to RM109.2 billion. Within the period of 2010 and 2015, there was an increase of RM32.9 billion registering an annual growth of 7.4 per cent per annum. In line with the value of gross output, value added for transportation and storage services recorded an increased of 6.8 per cent per annum with a value of RM43.7 billion. Number of persons engaged in transportation and storage services recorded 411,273, of which 358,916 persons or 87.3 per cent are paid full-time employees. A total of 47,486 persons (11.5%) were working proprietors & unpaid family workers while paid part-time employees were 4,871 persons (1.2%). For the period of 2010 to 2015, number of persons engaged recorded an increase of 98,311 persons, registering an annual growth of 5.6 per cent per annum. Meanwhile, total salaries & wages paid in 2015 was RM14.3 billion, registering an annual growth of 9.5 per cent per annum. WOMEN-OWNED ESTABLISHMENTS In 2015, there were 3,836 women-owned establishments in transportation and storage services which comprised 7.1 per cent of the total establishments with annual growth of 5.9 per cent.
