- ICT CONTRIBUTED 18 .2 PER CENT TO THE ECONOMY Contribution of ICT to the national economy registered 18.2 per cent (RM224.0 billion) in 2016. ICTGDP accounted for 13.4 per cent while e-Commerce for non ICT industries registered 4.8 per cent as shown in Exhibit.
- ICTGDP continuosly grew at 8 .5 per cent, supported by ICT services (40.0%) and ICT manufacturing (36.1%). The main contributor to ICT services was telecommunications services while the ICT manufacturing driven by electronic components & boards, communication equipment and consumer electronics. e-COMMERCE REGISTERED RM74.6 BILLION Contribution of e-Commerce to GDP recorded 6.1 per cent with a value of RM74.6 billion. Performance of e-Commerce rose to 9.3 per cent supported by non ICT industry which experienced a growth of 9.4 per cent. EMPLOYMENT IN THE ICT INDUSTRY DOMINATED BY ICT MANUFACTURING ICT industry employed 1.07 million persons with a contribution of 7.6 per cent to the total employment. Employment in the ICT industry was dominated by ICT manufacturing with share of 38.0 per cent, followed by ICT services (27.0%) and ICT trade (20.5%).
