State of Kuwait Central Statistical Bureau News Release Foreign Trade Statistics , January-March 2017 07/06/2017 Exports increased 55.2% in 2017 January - March According to the provisional foreign trade statistics results, in January-March 2017; exports were 4,165 Million KD with a 55.2% increase and imports were 2,539 Million KD with a 10.9% increase compared with January-March 2016. In January-March 2017, balance of trade was 1,625 Million KD while it was 392 Million KD in January-March 2016 with a 314.2% increase. In the same period, volume of trade increased 34.8% compared with the first quarter of 2016. Trade of volume was 6,704 Million KD in January-March 2017 while it was 4,974 Million KD in January-March 2016. Coverage rate was 164.0% in January-March 2017, while it was 117.1% in January-March 2016. In the first quarter of 2017, Coverage rate (excluding oil) was 17.7% while it was 14.6% in the first quarter of 2016. State of Kuwait Central Statistical Bureau News Release Foreign Trade Statistics , January-March 2017 07/06/2017 Mineral fuels and oil were forefront in exports according to chapters For January-March 2017, the top categories for exports were “Mineral fuels and oils” (3,716 Million KD) with share of 89.2% and then “Organic chemicals” (108.7 Million KD) 2.6%, “Plastics and Articles Thereof” (83.2 Million KD) 2.0%. Boilers, Machinery and Mechanical Appliances were forefront in imports At the same period, “Boilers, Machinery and Mechanical Appliances; Parts Thereof” has by far the highest value imported at (386.7 Million KD) with share of 15.2% and then, “Electrical Machinery and Equipment and Parts Thereof; Sound Recorders and Reproducers, Television Image and Sound Recorders and Reproducers, and Parts and Accessories of such Articles” (344.6 Million KD) 13.6%, “Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling-stock, parts thereof” (311 Million KD) 12.2%. For exports, India was followed by Saudi Arabia (54.1 Million KD), China (46.1 Million KD) and Iraq (45.3 Million KD). The top country for Kuwait’s imports was China (392.5 Million KD), records for imports range from United States of America (279.8 Million KD), UAE (222.4 Million KD), and Germany (173.3 Million KD) Exports to GCC countries decreased by 5.8% As compared with the same quarter of the previous year, exports to the GCC countries were 126.8 Million KD, while it was 134.6 Million KD, and decreased by 5.8%. The share of the GCC countries was 3.0% in January-March 2017 while it was also 5.0% in January-March 2016. The share of Industrial supplies in imports was 26% During the same period, 26.0% of imports products were Industrial supplies. As compared with the same period of the previous year; Industrial supplies increased 20.5% and Capital goods increased by 25.1% while Food and beverages decreased by 2%.
