- INTERPAC DANA SAFI (December 2017) The Fund seeks to maximize capital gain by investing principally in Shariah counters listed on Bursa Malaysia. It has a flexible asset allocation strategy and may invest in Shariah fixed income securities and money market instruments to meet its objective over the medium to long term period. Up to 5% NIL Up to 10 days Incidental. MANAGER’S COMMENTS The ringgit appreciated 0.7% month-on-month (MoM) against the US dollar to RM4.0614 in December. Year-to-date, the ringgit was the second best performing currency against the US dollar, appreciating 10.5%. Crude oil prices strengthened in December for the fourth consecutive month, with WTI crude and Brent crude rising 5.3% and 5.2% MoM to USD60.42 per barrel and USD66.87 per barrel respectively. Meanwhile, spot prices of crude palm oil fell 3.0% to RM2,400.00 per tonne. Malaysia’s Index of Industrial Production increased by 3.4% in October. The increase was driven by positive growth in all sectors – Manufacturing (4.2%), Electricity (4.6%), Mining (0.8%). The expansion in manufacturing output was due mainly to higher growth in major sub-sectors – Electrical and Electronics Products (5.9%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (2.1%), and Food, Beverages and Tobacco (7.0%). Meanwhile, mining sector output increased due to an increase of 1.4% and 0.3% in the index for Natural Gas and Crude Oil respectively. In October, Malaysia’s export grew 18.9% YoY, underpinned by electrical and electronic products (+16.9%), crude petroleum (+62.9%), and palm oil and palm oil-based products (+11.3%). Meanwhile, imports grew 20.9%.
