’ard al-kharaj

Definition of "’ard al-kharaj"

Lands owned by non-Muslims but which have been conquered by the Muslims, either by force or by truce but left with the previous owners by the Islamic state. The Islamic state levies a land tax as in the treaty or as fixed by itself.
