Definition of "Al-sa‘ al-shar‘i"

The sa‘ prevalent in the days of the Prophet Muhammad. The jurists of later days used it to translate the equivalents of their own respective time into the measure of the Prophet’s time to determine nisab, diyah, fitrah and other religious levies.
