Definition of "Al-ju‘l"

Lit: Pay, wages. Tech: Historically, financial levy on Muslims who stayed away from war. The funds thus raised were used to equip those who went on military service. In the days of caliph ‘Umar 1, sometimes, married people were taxed to equip the bachelors for war.
