Definition of "Al-tamlik"

Lit: To make someone the owner of property. Tech: Used in the context of zakah. The Hanafite school of jurisprudence contends that the only legal form of zakah expenditure is the transfer of funds to poor persons so that it becomes the property of those people. The implication of this condition is that zakah cannot be used for purposes where such personal transfer of funds is not possible.
