Indonesian President Pushes for Collective Efforts with Trade Ministry to Achieve Economic Growth Target in 2021

Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is pushing for the country to achieve its economic growth target of 5% in 2021, compared to the 2.07% contraction seen in 2020. Jokowi added that although achievement of this target was not going to be easy, it was important to maintain optimism, with Jokowi urging the Ministry of Trade to step up efforts and set aside ‘normative ways of working’.

Why it matters?

The President stated that the Ministry of Trade should issue creative and innovative new policies that contribute to and promote economic recovery in Indonesia. Jokowi also urged all parties involved to work hard and embrace change.
