Brunei’s Consumer Price Index Increases 1.5% YoY in September 2020

Brunei’s overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 1.5% year-on-year (YoY) in September 2020, reaching 100.8 from 99.3 in September 2019, according to the latest statistical figures released on the 7th of December 2020 by the country’s Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy.

According to DEPS, the key sectors that contributed to the increase in CPI in September 2020 included Miscellaneous Goods and Services (which accounted for 52.2% of the total overall YoY CPI) with a 10.5% YoY increase, Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (26.9% of total CPI) with a 2.2% YoY increase, as well as Transport (10.7% of overall CPI) with a 0.9% YoY increase, compared to the same period in the previous year.
