The Qur’anic Verse telling what Yusuf ’s brothers said to their father: {“They said: O our father, indeed we went racing each other and left Yusuf (Joseph) with our possessions, ...”} Al-Mawardi said: “They [Yusuf ’s brothers] addressed their father [i.e., Jacob] with such a saying which he did not object [their going to a racing competition]. This serves as evidence to its permissibility in Jacob’s religious code which was not later superseded by abrogation and is still therefore applicable thence”.
