Prof Dato' Dr Mahmood Zuhdi bin Hj Abdul Majid
Prof Dato' Dr Mahmood Zuhdi bin Hj Abdul Majid is currently a Professor at the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge & Human Science at the International Islamic University Malaysia. He was the Director of the Academy of Islamic Studies in University of Malaya from 1995 to 2003. From 1985 to 1990, he was the Dean at the Faculty of Shariah at University of Malaya. His areas of expertise are threefold, namely, History of Islamic Law, the Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence, and the Administration of Islamic Criminal Law. Prof Dato Dr Mahmood is an accomplished writer, having published numerous Shariah works over the years including "Towards Realization of Islamic Law in Malaysia" (1998), "Islamic Family Law: Concepts and Its Implementation in Malaysia" (1992), and "Islamic Criminal Law: Concepts and Principles of Its Implementation" (1992). Among the numerous articles written by Prof Dato’ Dr Mahmood are "Fiqh Malaysia: Concepts and Challenges" (2000), "Zakat Role in Ummah Development" (2002), and "Islamic Political Theory: Understanding Siasah Shariah" (2003). Prof Dato’ Dr Mahmood is a recipient of the Dato’ Paduka Jiwa Mahkota Kelantan Yang Amat Mulia (DJMK) conferred by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Kelantan.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Shariah from Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya; Master’s Degree in Shariah from the Al-Azhar University; Master of Philosophy from the University of Kent; Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Malaya; and Diploma in Education from Ain Shams University in Egypt.
