- MENA Morning Report Wednesday , June 07, 2017 Overview Regional Markets: MENA markets continued to remain under pressure as the diplomatic rifts with Qatar is making investors nervous. There is uncertainty around such crisis as a duration of such an event rises then the impact could be more severe and damaging for the economic sectors. Further, the weakness in oil prices is making things even more worse for the regional markets as they are already reeling through a challenging period. For the day, four indexes closed in red, while two ended in green and two remained unchanged. Qatar continued its downward pressure as the index lost another 1.6% for the day, extending the losses to around 9.0% in the past two sessions alone. Saudi Arabia closed on a negative note as it was down by 0.5% for the day, succumbing to the selling pressure after two consecutive sessions of gains. UAE markets ended on a mixed note as Dubai was marginally up by 0.1%, while Abu Dhabi was down by 0.5% for the day. Despite recording gains during the session, Dubai remains under pressure during the week due to the weakness witnessed in the first two sessions of the week. Egypt continued its upward trend as it was up by 0.8% for the day, extending the weekly gains to 1.2% despite the weakness in regional markets. Kuwait closed flat for the day, remaining range bound in the past few sessions due to lack of involvement from retail investors. Bahrain closed marginally lower by 0.1%, while Oman was flat for the day. International Markets: US markets closed on a negative note as Dow, Nasdaq and S&P were down by 0.2%, 0.3% and 0.3% respectively. European markets closed in red FTSE, DAX and CAC were all down by 0.01%, 1.0% and 0.7% respectively. At the time of writing this report, Asian markets have opened on a mixed note as Hang Seng and Shanghai are up by 0.1% and 0.3% respectively, while Nikkei is down by 0.2%.
