- MENA Morning Report Sunday , April 29, 2018 Overview Regional Markets: MENA region ended the last trading session on a positive note as it took cues from the global markets and easing geo-political concerns. However, the performance during the week was negative across the regional markets with the exception of Egypt. Going forward, investors will continue to closely watch out for the first quarter earnings coupled with improvement in the global geo-political environment. For the day, Egypt was the best performer with gains of 1.3% during the session, extending the weekly gains to 3.3% and monthly to 5.2%. Egypt continues to benefit from foreign funds inflow as the economy is showing signs of recovery and more importantly the inflationary pressure has reduced significantly over the past two to three quarters. UAE markets ended on a positive note as Dubai and Abu Dhabi were both up by 0.5% and 0.6% respectively for the day. However, both of the indexes ended the week on the losing side as Dubai was down by 1.3% and Abu Dhabi by 0.2%. Within the UAE, Abu Dhabi seems to be the most preferred as Dubai has remained under pressure during the past two months. Saudi Arabia closed on a positive note as it was up by 0.2% for the day, but the performance during the week was negative with losses of 0.3%. Qatar closed lower as it was down by 0.2% for the day, extending the weekly losses to 1.2%. Bahrain and Oman were down by 0.5% and 0.4% respectively, while Kuwait was flat for the day. Bahrain was the worst performer within the region as it lost close to 3.0% during the week. International Markets: US markets closed on a subdued note as S&P and Nasdaq were marginally up by 0.1% and 0.02% respectively, while DJIA was down by 0.05% for the day. European markets closed on a positive note as FTSE, CAC and DAX were all up by 1.1%, 0.5% and 0.6% respectively for the day. Asian markets closed on a positive note as Nikkei, Hang Seng and Shanghai were all up by 0.7%, 0.9% and 0.2% respectively.
