Exports The export unit value index posted a positive growth at 2 .2% in the same month, reflected by the growth in all sections, particularly mineral fuels (+8.3%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (+4.0%) and machinery & transport equipment (+1.0%). Similarly, the export volume index increased with a double digit growth of 17.3% in March 2021, contributed by the increases in the index of manufactured goods (+31.4%), machinery & transport equipment (+25.4%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+18.3%). The seasonally adjusted export volume index registered a marginal increase of 0.3% from 162.7 points to 163.1 points. When compared to the previous year, both the export unit value and volume indices rose 2.3% and 28.0%, respectively. Imports The import unit value index increased 1.0% in March 2021 as compared with the previous month. The increment was contributed by the better performance of the index of mineral fuels (+4.7%), machinery & transport equipment (+0.7%) and manufactured goods (+0.5%). Meanwhile, the import volume index grew 14.8% in March 2021 as compared to the preceding month which was contributed by the expansion in the index of chemicals (+23.0%), machinery & transport equipment (+14.8%) and manufactured goods (+13.7%). The seasonally adjusted import volume index in March 2021 expanded 3.3% from 157.2 points to 162.4 points. On a year-on-year basis, the import unit value index declined marginally by 0.5% while the import volume index expanded 19.8%. Terms of trade Malaysia’s terms of trade rose 1.2% month-on-month from 101.5 points to 102.8 points in March 2021. On a year-on-year basis, Malaysia’s terms of trade also remained positive at 2.9% from 99.9 points in March of previous year.
