LIPPER LEADERS RATING (OVERALL) Total Return Consistent Return Preservation 3 3 1 Lipper Leaders Key Lowest Highest 1 5 The Lipper Leaders Ratings System is a set of tools that guide investors and their advisors to select funds that suit individual investment styles and goals. It uses investors-centred criteria to deliver a simple, clear description of a fund's success in meeting certain goals, such as preserving capital or building wealth through consistent strong returns. Lipper Leader ratings are derived from highly sophisticated formulas that analyse funds against clearly defined criteria. Each fund is ranked against its peers based on the metric used (such as Total Return or Expense), and then the top 20% of funds in that ranking receive the Lipper Leader designation. Lipper Leaders measures are not predictive of future performance, but they do provide context and perspective for making knowledgeable fund investment decisions. FUND MANAGER’S COMMENTARY Greater China markets rose in May with the Dow Jones Islamic Market Greater China Index closing 2.72% higher, rebounding from a sharp sell- off early in the month. Greater China markets reacted positively to a rebound of global equity markets as well as steps towards reopening of Shanghai and easing Covid-19 related curbs in Beijing. This was further helped by the Chinese government moving to support the housing market, via a 20bps reduction in the mortgage floor and lowering of the 5 year loan prime rate by 15bps to 4.45%. The government also announced a raft of other measures to support the economy, such as automotive tax cuts and purchase subsidies, as well as consumer vouchers for electronics purchases. Macroeconomic data however remained weak, with retail sales falling 11.1% y/y (year-over-year) and service production index falling 6.1% y/y. Industrial production fell 2.9% y/y while the official manufacturing purchasing managers index (PMI) remained in contractionary territory at 49.6. MSCI China rose 0.87% in USD terms, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose 1.54%, Shanghai Shenzhen 300 rose 1.87% and Taiwan’s stock market rose 1.30% in local currency terms. In Taiwan, the Taiwan Stock Exchange Index rose 1.3% driven by a rebound in global technology stocks. Foreign fund flows turned positive following 4 months of outflows. Energy and Information Technology sectors were the best performers , while defensives underperformed during the month. During the month, the Fund rose 2.01%, underperforming the benchmark which rose 3.31%. Key detractors were underweight positions in selected US listed ADRs as well as positions in several consumer stocks.
