Definition of "Bait mal al-muslimin"

Public treasury of the Muslims for collecting and disbursing charity and waqf funds. Usually, it was administered by the chief judge (qadi) of the state. The funds were kept in the mosque under safe custody. The chief judge was responsible for administering these funds strictly in accordance with the shari‘ah.
