Al-ijma

Definition of "Al-ijma"

Lit: Consensus. Tech: Consensus of the jurists (mujtahidwn) on a certain question in a certain age. It is of two broad types: (i) ijma‘ qauli, in which all the jurists give their opinion explicitly; and (ii) ijma sukuti, in which some express their opinion but others do not oppose it.
